3 (non-lotion) Things You Need for Dry Skin

Brr…as temperatures dip across the nation, everyone’s weighing in with ideas for combatting the chilly effects on our skin.  Since we didn’t want to do another lotion round-up, I asked the team for their go-to non-lotion tips and products for braving the winter.  Here are the three things you need (in addition to your lotion) to combat dry skin.

  1. Exfoliate! Let’s be honest, who shaves their legs every day (or at all) in the winter? But giving shaving a break means you aren’t getting the exfoliating benefits of removing dry skin, and boy our skin is SO dry in the winter.  Give your lotion a chance to sink in by removing dead skin first. Using a dry brush, like this cult favorite, or bath gloves, we exfoliate before every shower in the winter. It’s the perfect primer to your favorite lotion.
  2. Petroleum-free chapstick. After reading many articles like this that showcase the downside of petroleum, we decided it was time to give it up. Who else has been addicted to Carmex?!  This Evan Healey Shea Butter lip treatment is amazingly moisturizing and protective.  In a pinch I dab it wherever else I have dry spots.
  3. A face mist. Lack of humidity in the air combined with heat blowing on our faces all day long makes our skin look and feel dull by midday. We all have our own preferred face mists but agree that they help us feel fresh and give our skin a dewy boost of moisture. I’m a fan of the Derma e Hydrating Mist with Hyaluronic Acid. They’re great for setting make up, too!

What’s your favorite way to chase dry skin away?

  1. I love dry brushing! It really helps exfoliate and promotes blood flow to the area which helps produce natural energy!
It also stimulates your lymphatic system which helps it release toxins. SO COOL! I brush towards the heart, starting at the feet and hands and brushing toward the chest. I bet more ladies would do it if they knew it helps lessen the appearance of scars, unless even skin, and maybe even cellulite (only personal proof) not medical yet.
