Like many people around the country, we’re sitting behind our TV and computer screens watching the devastation unfold in Texas and other parts of the Gulf Coast. While thousands of people watch Hurricane Harvey destroy their homes and rescue personnel work tirelessly to bring as many people as possible to safety, it’s easy to feel like there is nothing we can do to help.
To replace that feeling of helplessness for us and those in our community, we compiled a list of ways to get involved. We hope that by sharing our findings we can extend the helping hand a little further. Please share your own findings in the comments below.
Amazon is taking donations for the American Red Cross, which can be made directly through your existing account. The company will be matching all donations made up to $1 million dollars total.
You can also head over to the iTunes store on your iPhone and make a donation directly to the American Red Cross.
Airbnb has an urgent accommodations page open for those looking for refuge from the affected areas. If you have a property in a surrounding area, you can offer your space for free to evacuees through the site. All service fees are waived until September 25th.

It’s easy to feel helpless in the wake of such a widespread tragedy, but we’re firm believers that a small contribution can make a major impact. Our thoughts continue to be with those affected and all the emergency personnel responding along the Gulf Coast.
And in the paraphrased words of one of our favorite authors Brené Brown (who is in Houston), don’t underestimate the power of positive thought and continue sending well wishes to all of those affected.
