Here at The Reveal, we’ve made a commitment to live a more eco-conscious, mindful life, which includes supporting sustainable athleisure wear. However, we still love fashion and want to look our best when hitting our favorite barre or spin classes. Lucky for us, as athleisure wear continues to gain acceptance and popularity, brands are stepping it up to become more fashionable, comfortable and most importantly: eco-friendly. Here are a few brands who’ve committed to creating awesome clothes without greatly impacting the Earth.
I’m completely in love with the Black Girlfriend High-Rise Legging from Girlfriend Collective. This company cares about the quality and time that goes into making each clothing item, while ensuring they are as eco-friendly as possible. They’re so high-quality, I couldn’t believe they are made primarily from post-consumer water bottles! I expected them to be threadbare and itchy, or fray easily. Instead, they’re thick, soft, support you in all the right places and compress your muscles for the ideal recovery. These are a MUST for working out!
When I’m running outside during the colder months, I can feel good about wearing Patagonia’s Women’s R2® Fleece Jacket. Not only is it super warm with wicking technology to keep you dry, but it’s also made from recycled polyester and uses Fair Trade Certified™ sewing. By using recycled polyester, this jacket reduces our dependence on petroleum, as well as reducing toxin emissions from incinerators.
I’m a sucker for a strappy, open-back workout tank, like this Organic Bra Tank Top from LVR. Not only do I feel confident and strong when my back is exposed, but it also helps keep me cool while doing cardio. All of LVR’s clothing items are made from organic cotton, which means they use fibers that aren’t treated with pesticides that can damage our environment. They also give back by donating and partnering with the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles, as well as wildlife rescue center ARCAS in Guatemala.
My all-time favorite sports bra is Elle Evans’ Afloat Sport Bra. This bra not only transports me to a tropical island every time I put it on, but it’s incredibly comfortable and supportive. Made from recycled lycra, it features perforated mesh in strategic spots to allow for optimal airflow. The best part about this bra – and their entire active wear line – is that everything can be worn in the water as swimwear, allowing you to be sustainable by using what you already have!
